Malta has officially been named the host of the 2027 Commonwealth Youth Games. The event will welcome approximately 1,150 athletes aged 14–18 from across the Commonwealth’s 74 Nations and Territories.

Malta’s unique dual-island concept will see world-class sporting action unfold across four main venue clusters spread between the islands of Malta and Gozo. Two Athlete Villages—one on each island—will be created using existing hotel infrastructure, offering athletes a comfortable and inspiring environment.

The 2027 Sport Programme will feature eight sports:

  • Athletics and Para Athletics
  • Netball
  • Squash
  • Swimming and Para Swimming
  • Triathlon
  • Weightlifting
  • Sailing (making its CYG debut)
  • Water Polo (also making its debut)

Malta 2027 will also feature the largest Para sport programme in Commonwealth Youth Games history, underscoring a commitment to inclusivity and sporting excellence.

As we look ahead to Malta 2027, we caught up with two athletes from the Trinbago 2023 Youth Games to reflect on their experiences.

Grace Davison, swimmer and medallist, shared:

“I really didn’t know what to expect at what was my first long-haul meet, but to come away with a gold and silver medal was really special. Since the Youth CWG, I’ve competed at Senior Europeans, Worlds, and the Olympics, which is pretty amazing. That experience gave me the confidence to pursue a senior swimming career.”

Oisin Ferrity, cycling gold medallist, reflected:

“The Youth Commonwealth Games was a life-changing experience for me. Meeting athletes from all over the world who compete in different sports was incredible. Competing for Northern Ireland and winning gold in the road race is something I’ll always look back on with pride.”

With Malta’s rich cultural heritage, scenic beauty, and passion for sport, the 2027 Commonwealth Youth Games promise to be a truly unforgettable experience.
