At this morning’s Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow, Commonwealth Games Northern Ireland was delighted to support the awarding of hosting rights for the 2030 Games to the city of Amdavad, in the state of Gujarat, India.

Following a stunning presentation, representatives from across the Commonwealth voted unanimously for Amdavad’s proposal which detailed an inclusive Games in their vibrant and culturally diverse city. A city that already boasts world class sporting facilities and a track record of hosting major events.

If the celebratory music and dance at the General Assembly was anything to go by, we’re in for an incredible experience in October 2030.

Building upon the fantastic work being delivered by the Glasgow 2026 Organising Company and the team behind the Malta 2027 Youth Games, Amdavad 2030 now provides the Commonwealth Sport movement with a long-term Games pipeline. We look forward to working with all our stakeholders to maximise the benefits for our athletes, coaches, and the wider community in Northern Ireland.

Following the announcement, CGNI Chair, Dr Stephen Martin MBE OLY was one of the first to congratulate Dr PT Usha, President of the Indian Commonwealth Games Association
